Lockcon AG is a Swiss company offering high security, tamper-evident containers and equipment for sample control test kits used by testing authorities in professional athletic and animal sport events all over the world. When it comes to the integrity of these events, no compromise should be made. Lockcon wanted to take their tamper-evident containers to the next level by giving accredited analysis labs a way to prove the authenticity of their sample test kits.

Lockon partnered with Scantrust, a Swiss based connected goods and active brand protection solutions provider, to implement an additional security layer. Using HP Indigo digital printing systems, Scantrust secured QR codes were integrated with Lockcon’s existing smart containers to deliver the required solution.

Sample containers secured by Scantrust have since been accepted by the anti-doping testing community, bringing a previously impossible level of trust and transparency to the sports world. The Scantrust patented process for creating secured QR codes also makes authentication very accessible as sample kits are simply authenticated with a smartphone.

The use of HP Indigo digital precision printing and the HP network of trusted security printers was key to a solution that enabled accurate, variable

data printing of secured QR code sets. HP Indigo digital presses use a sophisticated, cloud-based integration with Scantrust to satisfy the rigorous printing system requirements that make a critical anti-copy feature possible.

“We were quite convinced we could make something better. We also love to work with the community and were very keen to develop something that gives value back to the market as well as for the athletes, doping control authorities, and laboratories” – Monika Egli, CEO of Lockcon AG
